On 27 November 2022, the Moorhen Team headed over to NTT to provide a hybrid livestreaming servicd for their EU Summit. The event was fully virtual, with no in-person audience in attendance.
We filmed our two presenters on site at NTT’s King William Street office. They were joined remotely by a number of guests who participated in the summit remotely from their various locations around the world. We also presented pre-recorded content from other members of NTT who couldn’t attend the event.
As we knew that we were only going to have the two presenters on-site, we decided we only needed a single-camera setup. For this, we chose to use our new Sony FX30. To make our single shot more dynamic, we also made use of a motorised slider. This introduced a small amount of movement to the shot, slowly panned from side to side whilst keeping our presenter in the centre of frame at all times.
As well as this we added a number of Astera LED tube lights into the background of the shot to add some more visual interest to the shot, choosing to make them light blue so that they also integrated with NTT’s branding. The result of these small additions turned what could’ve been a basic shot, into something far more dynamic and engaging.
To assist our presenters, we also provided a comfort monitor just below the camera. The feed on this screen was controlled by a member of our team to show them the slide content they were presenting. The screen could also show any videos played during the event or the video feeds of our remote guests depending on the section of the event. We also provided a timer on this monitor, so presenters could keep track of time during their slot.
To integrate our remote guests into the live stream, we made use of a piece of software called Zoom ISO, which allows us to take full-quality video feeds and audio feeds from each individual participant within a zoom call and integrate them into our vision mixing software.
There are three key advantages to this approach as opposed to using regular zoom. The first, as mentioned, is that you are able to get full-quality video feeds than regular zoom allows, which means that the end product on the livestream is of a higher quality.
The second is that it allows far greater flexibility and customisation in how we display the remote guests. For example, in this case we displayed all of the guests, along with our in-person presenter, on screen at once with an NTT branded background.
The third advantage is that for our remote guests, they don’t need to do anything more than they usually would when they usually join a zoom call. Whilst on our end we make use of Zoom ISO, they don’t need any additional software at all. Because they’re looking at the Zoom that they’re already familiar with, they are able to be more relaxed, which makes for a better event. And to make their life even simpler, we also provide a feed of the livestream directly into zoom so they don’t have to have to also have the streaming platform open as well.
The NTT EU Summit was a great success. Both the client and ourselves were really pleased with how our bespoke solutions led to a smooth running event and a professional and engaging live stream.
